Alberta Obesity Centre
From nutrition counselling and medical treatment to mental health support and surgical referrals, we offer full obesity management at no cost to patients. This is virtual healthcare designed for real change, not quick fixes.
Your Health Journey Starts Here – And It Won’t Cost You a Thing
The Alberta Obesity Centre (AOC) was created to change how obesity care is delivered. For too long, people have been told that weight is simply a matter of willpower. At AOC, we know better. Obesity is a chronic, relapsing medical condition influenced by genetics, hormones, metabolism, and environment. It deserves care that is rooted in science, delivered with empathy, and accessible to everyone.
All our services are available at no cost to patients across Alberta. Every virtual assessment and appointment with a physician, psychologist, or registered dietitian is fully covered. Because managing your health shouldn’t depend on your income, it should depend on care that works.
Changing the Story Around Obesity
AOC was founded by medical professionals who saw a gap in Alberta’s healthcare system: patients could access general diet advice or short-term programs, but few clinics offered long-term, medically supervised, and psychologically integrated care.
AOC was created to fill that gap: to bridge the divide between community health, hospital programs, and real-world patient needs. We’re proud to offer a centre that treats obesity as the chronic disease it is, while respecting the humanity of every person who comes to us for help.
Here, care begins with understanding, not judgment. We look at the full picture – medical, nutritional, behavioural, and emotional – and develop a plan that’s realistic and sustainable. The focus isn’t on “fixing” anyone; it’s on helping people regain health, energy, and confidence in ways that last.
Full-Spectrum Obesity Treatment with No Price Tag Attached
Every journey at AOC is guided by a multidisciplinary team that works together to support long-term change. Our approach integrates medicine, nutrition, and mental health under one roof, with coordinated care plans designed for each person’s unique needs.
Medical Obesity Management
Our physicians and LPNs assess the biological causes of obesity, from hormone imbalances to metabolic conditions, and create evidence-based treatment plans that may include medication, monitoring, and collaboration with healthcare providers.
Registered Dietitian Services
Nutrition guidance at AOC is practical, flexible, and entirely judgment-free. Our dietitians help patients build sustainable, enjoyable eating habits that respect cultural and personal preferences.
Behavioural and Psychological Support
Mental health is inseparable from physical health. Our psychologists work with patients to address emotional eating, stress, trauma, and body image, helping them build resilience and self-compassion.
Surgery Coordination and Referrals
When bariatric surgery is part of a care plan, our team coordinates with surgical programs to ensure patients receive complete pre- and post-operative support.
Every service is offered virtually and with no fees, so care is accessible no matter where you live in Alberta.
Empowering Patients Through Education and Community
Education is central to everything we do. We believe informed patients make confident choices, and that real progress comes from understanding how obesity works, not from short-term diets or willpower-based plans. Our workshops, group programs, and ongoing virtual check-ins create a community of support that lasts long after treatment begins. Patients stay connected through follow-up care, peer groups, and maintenance programs, ensuring they always have guidance, encouragement, and accountability along the way.
A Team That Leads with Heart
Every member of the Alberta Obesity Centre shares a commitment to compassion and clinical excellence. Our physicians, psychologists, nurses, and registered dietitians bring decades of combined experience in obesity medicine, endocrinology, and behavioural health, united by a single purpose: to deliver care that restores health and dignity to every patient.
